Creative Sparks & Community Roots: Fairfax, VA in Focus

In collaboration with branding agency CivicBrand, this advertising photography project was crafted to support a place-based rebranding effort for the City of Boone, North Carolina. CivicBrand’s mission—“Powered by Civic Pride”—called for imagery that celebrates local identity while supporting economic development and tourism through storytelling visuals.

The photography covers Boone’s eclectic mix of natural and built environments: walkable downtown streets, community sculptures, Appalachian landmarks, fog-wrapped ridgelines, vibrant parks, and scenic trails. Each image was styled to feel authentic and welcoming—conveying the soul of the community through the lens of real life.

These images became part of Boone’s broader civic brand toolkit, used in everything from wayfinding and signage to the city’s website, social campaigns, and branded materials. Whether highlighting small businesses on King Street or the natural serenity of a mountain stream, the photos support a cohesive visual identity rooted in pride of place.

For CivicBrand and municipalities like Boone, photography isn't just documentation—it’s a strategic tool to invite, engage, and energize both locals and visitors. This campaign proves how place branding can come alive through thoughtful, emotion-rich visuals that honor the community’s past and future.
