Texas Hilltop Retreat: A Masterclass in Warm Minimalism
Residential Architecture & Interiors Photography
Mark Richardson Architects x Kempt
Perched above the rolling Texas landscape, this modern hilltop residence is a stunning collaboration between architect Mark Richardson and interior designer Kempt Studio. Their shared vision brought to life a space that embraces clean lines, organic textures, and a gentle color palette—all beautifully bathed in natural light and framed by expansive views.
From the outside, the structure’s dark, gabled volumes contrast strikingly with the soft tones of the surrounding terrain. Inside, the home unfolds into a sequence of spaces that feel both grounded and elevated. Vaulted wood ceilings, custom millwork, and plastered walls set the stage for serene bedrooms, cozy sitting areas, and spa-inspired baths. Every space is designed for quiet living and deeper connection to the landscape beyond.
Kempt Studio’s interior design work adds warmth and intentionality to every room. Muted earth tones, sculptural lighting, and layered textiles soften the minimalism without compromising its clarity. The thoughtful placement of furnishings encourages stillness and reflection. This is a home where every detail is considered—where form, function, and feeling align.
Photographing this project meant honoring both the architecture’s restraint and the interior’s intimacy. Using a mix of wide architectural perspectives and carefully composed vignettes, the photography captures not just how the home looks—but how it feels to inhabit.
From morning sunrises spilling across pale oak floors to dusky shadows cast across stucco walls, this home is a study in balance and beauty. The result is timeless and deeply livable—a true hilltop sanctuary.
