Modern Function Meets Playful Detail – Capturing the Fat Quarter Shop Headquarters

Architecture and commercial interiors photography for Hill + Wilkinson, GC

When photographing commercial architecture, the goal is to reveal not just the structure, but the story—and the Fat Quarter Shop in Kyle, Texas tells a vibrant one.

This newly built headquarters combines clean industrial lines with warm materiality and pops of personality—perfect for a brand that specializes in colorful creativity. From the striking geometric motif on the building’s facade to the bold tile detail in the staff kitchen, every element balances functionality with a clear design voice.

We began outside, capturing the sharp massing and modern facade with its crisp forms and thoughtful landscaping. The patterned accent—reminiscent of a quilt block—nods cleverly to the company's roots in the fabric and quilting world. Inside, the main entry offers a sleek mix of wood paneling, black steel stairs, and diffused light. The large glass-walled conference room anchors the space with transparency and professionalism.

One of the most photogenic spaces was the break room—a light-filled kitchen softened with pastel tile, matte finishes, and sculptural pendants. It’s a great example of how this project blends utility and style, offering employees a place that feels both elevated and welcoming.

As architectural photographers, capturing the contrast between materials, the way light interacts with structure, and the spirit of the brand is key—and Fat Quarter Shop offered all three in spades. From exterior elevations to detailed interior vignettes, this project is a reminder that thoughtful design isn't just about how a space looks—it's about how it works and feels.
