King Ranch Store – A Texas Legacy Reimagined in the Fort Worth Stockyards

Architecture and commercial interiors photography for Bennett Partners

Deep in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, the King Ranch retail store by Bennett Architects stands as a masterclass in architectural storytelling. This immersive space doesn’t just house merchandise—it honors the legacy of one of Texas’ most iconic ranches through material, form, and detail.

Designed with reverence for tradition and an eye toward experiential retail, the store unfolds across two thoughtfully designed levels. From the moment visitors cross the threshold, they're surrounded by warm plaster walls, custom woodwork, forged ironwork, and leather detailing—all echoing the rugged yet refined spirit of the King Ranch brand.

Bennett Architects embraced the challenge of balancing authenticity with retail functionality. Massive display cases and wood-paneled counters are accented with tile inlays and the recognizable "Running W" brand mark, grounding the space in cultural identity. Oversized windows usher in natural light, which interacts beautifully with the earthy palette of burnt orange concrete floors and raw timber beams. Every surface was chosen to wear well over time, aging gracefully—like a fine saddle or pair of handmade boots.

Taxidermy, vintage imagery, and architectural artifacts adorn the walls, giving the space a curated museum-like quality without compromising its contemporary edge. Custom shelving integrates seamlessly into alcoves and niches, while layered lighting provides both drama and intimacy depending on the space.

Our photography focused on capturing both the expansive grandeur and the tactile details—from the rugged textures of the hand-forged fixtures to the inviting softness of the leather seating. The result is a visual narrative that celebrates not only the architecture but also the enduring story of the King Ranch itself.

This project is a shining example of how retail architecture can create a sense of place, evoke emotion, and ultimately extend a brand’s ethos into the built environment.
